Pakistan's Global Standing Elevated by Expatriates and Strategic Military Wins
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Commends Overseas Pakistanis for Their Economic Contributions and Support Amid Recent National Triumphs
During a recent address to the Pakistani diaspora in London, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif lauded the vital role played by overseas Pakistanis in fortifying the country’s economy and uplifting its international standing.
He acknowledged the tireless dedication of expatriate Pakistanis, whose collective efforts across the world have resulted in remittances exceeding $38 billion—a critical support to Pakistan’s economic backbone.
“These contributions not only stabilize our economy but also reflect the unwavering connection between our diaspora and their homeland,” said the Prime Minister.
Shehbaz Sharif went on to commend the community while discussing Pakistan’s recent military achievements, particularly referencing the successful military operations “Marka-e-Haq” and “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos,” launched in response to the Pahalgam incident.
The Prime Minister revealed that Pakistan had proposed an international inquiry into the Pahalgam incident, which India declined, instead targeting civilians within Pakistan’s territory. As a result, Pakistan was compelled to retaliate in self-defense, successfully downing six Indian fighter jets.
He praised the strategic leadership of Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for his command during the operation, which marked a historic milestone in Pakistan’s defense history.
“Success was made possible due to our faith in Allah, unity between civil and military leadership, and the unparalleled professionalism of our armed forces,” he added.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of resolving all disputes—particularly the Kashmir issue—through equitable and respectful dialogue with India.
Turning to global issues, the Prime Minister denounced Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza, calling them among the gravest humanitarian atrocities in modern history. He urged the global Muslim community to take a proactive stance in fostering peace across the Middle East.
Looking ahead, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his government’s pledge to build a self-sustaining, debt-free economy, centered on sustainable growth. He stressed the need to invest in modern education, particularly in IT and Artificial Intelligence, to prepare Pakistan’s youth for global competition.
“Our founding fathers envisioned Pakistan as a respected and dignified nation in the global community. With collective resolve, that vision can become reality,” he declared.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, also speaking at the event, referred to overseas Pakistanis as a vital bridge between Pakistan and the UK. He noted their crucial role in enhancing bilateral relations and strengthening economic ties.
He recalled the dire state of the economy when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition took office in 2022, noting that the country was on the edge of default. “Through strategic fiscal management and bold reforms, we have brought stability,” he said.
Dar reported a decline in inflation and interest rates, and a steady improvement in key economic indicators. He emphasized that Pakistan is progressing through national consensus in defense, economic planning, and diplomacy.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif reflected on the immense internal and external challenges the country faced when the current administration assumed power. He described remittances as the “lifeline” of the national economy and declared the success of “Marka-e-Haq” as an unprecedented achievement in the country’s military annals.
Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain echoed the sentiments of national pride, calling the diaspora one of Pakistan’s most valuable national assets.
He underscored that recent developments—including the success of Marka-e-Haq and the strategic defense agreement with Saudi Arabia—have greatly enhanced Pakistan’s global stature.
“The unity between our political leadership and armed forces is finally yielding tangible results,” he noted.
